Children and Families

Children are welcome at all our services and there is a special carpeted area for them at the back of the church with toys and books. If, however, you’re looking for a specifically all-age, family-orientated service we would recommend you try the First Sunday Family Eucharist or Third Sunday Special. For other activities for children please look at the linked pages.

Let's Celebrate!

First Sunday Family Eucharist

On the first Sunday of the month from 9.45am we offer a flexible and informal all-age service built around the Common Worship Eucharist.  This often makes use of drama and visual aids, and features modern songs and hymns. There are craft activities for children and breakfast is served  for all, from 9.45am , with the actual communion service starting at 10.30.

Third Sunday Special

Third Sunday Special is a relaxed and informal ‘messy church’ type of service for families with young children – normally catering for toddlers to ten year olds.

It takes place at St Mary’s on the third Sunday every month, from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Each service is modelled around a well-known Bible story that is presented in a lively, engaging and interactive way, often using dressing up and dramatised storytelling. There is a special birthday slot, some songs, some prayers and lots of craft activity.

Third Sunday Special offers an opportunity for families to worship, celebrate and be creative together – it’s relaxed and very sociable. It’s been running since 2001 and every September we enjoy a bring-and-share lunch to celebrate its birthday. Each December Third Sunday Special transforms into a special Christingle Service, which is always very popular.
